A bit of a blow today, the first of our season and so no boats. So we have been able to catch up with more tidying and sorting around the cottages and keeping out of the wind. Here is a glimpse of some of what has been happening around us:
By this afternoon there were good waves crashing onto the west side of the island.
A pair of greater black-backed gulls had killed a razorbill and were busy trying to munch in the rising swell.
A cormorant passing the South Ness
And bird nesting ledge wars. Behind the South Horn the guillemots had started to set up territories on this ledge but just in the last few days a pair of shags have now built a nest. The shags seem quite settled now but in the past the guillemots have moved them on eventually. It will be interesting to see how this one pans out.
