If puffins are your thing, and we gets lots of people on the island who are a bit mad about puffins, then the Scottish Seabird Centre in North Berwick are hosting the first ever festival of puffins in Scotland between 16 and 26 May.
The event will be for all the family and during Scotland’s largest celebration of these wonderful and iconic birds there will be a plethora of activities such as puffin trails; special puffin-spotting cruises on the Puffin Express; an expert talks programme; puffin parties; puffin-themed art exhibition plus of course the opportunity to zoom in on the live puffin action with our interactive live cameras in the Discovery Centre. A full programme will be shortly available on their website
I met a lady on the island today who just couldn’t get enough of puffins despite me telling her about how horrible they are when you have them in the hand (we say they are sharp at both ends and grumpy in the middle) so I think this might be right up her street. And especially if combined with a trip to the Isle of May which is quite simply the best and most accessible place to see puffins in Scotland. What’s not to like?
