Thursday 2nd April comments: Open! Today the Isle of May opened its doors to the public for the first time as the May Princess arrived just after midday with our first visitors. Following cancellation yesterday due to bad weather, it was good to get started and share the island with everyone. The Isle of May will remain open until the end of September and if you’ve not been, I would highly recommend a visit.

Today small numbers of Puffins were present on land and large numbers of Guillemots and Razorbills were present on the cliff tops. It’s still very early in the seabird calendar as the birds will come and go on a daily basis over the next few weeks before finally settling on eggs in mid-April. On the migration front, things have been slow although a Sparrowhawk kept the local Rock Pipit population on their toes today.

With settled weather forecast over the Easter period, it’ll be a great time to visit, so don’t be strangers. The Isle of May is open!
