Tuesday 14th July comments: Time is flying, quite literally for many of our seabirds. The first of many fledglings have departed the island and hopefully over the next 3-4 weeks many more will follow. We are now at the stage that our Arctic Tern chicks are taking to the wing and are finding the freedom to explore their surrounding environment.

It must be strange for the chicks having been confined to a small patch of vegetation and dependant on their parents to suddenly be able to fly and feed for the themselves. However having said that, as the photos above show, the chicks still need a helping hand as they prepare for a long migration journey ahead. The wonders of nature and the wonders of a seabird colony.

If you haven’t already booked, I would well recommend a visit to this seabird city before The wonders of the isle of May…it’s well worth a visit!
