Saturday 22nd August comments: There she blows! This morning off the Isle of May a young Humpback Whale was discovered breaching in waters just north of the isle (looking towards Crail) just after 07:00.
The animal was watched on several occasions as it breached out of the water, giving great views for those who saw it before finally settling down and heading north. The above photo was taken at some distance but despite this, the distinct ‘humped’ back and dorsal fin can be seen. Humpbacks have been recorded here in the past but its still magical to see one.
With good numbers of Minke Whales recently and seven Orcas in late May, its certainly been a good year for cetaceans! What next…place your bets!
