Friday 25th September comments: Autumn birdwatching has many highlights but one the most evocative moments has to be the sound of hundreds of Pink-footed Geese flying overhead as they reach the British mainland.

Today the floodgates opened as 2,541 Pink-footed Geese were recorded flying west over the Island heading to wintering grounds further south. These birds will have made the long oversea journey earlier today and the air was full of the sound of Geese as skien after skein battled their way through a stiff westerly wind.

Autumn is very much here and next stop, our winter Thushes will be arriving…
