Saturday 10th October comments: Its been some autumn and today it got even better. Mid-afternoon a ‘ringtail harrier’ was noted over the island and was soon tracked down…a Pallid Harrier, the islands (and Fife’s) first ever record!
Discover by Bex as it moved north, it caps a fine year for Bex who found the islands first ever Red Grouse in her first week on the island and finds the first ever Pallid Harrier in her final week! Not bad going. The bird flew north and I’m certain mainland Fife birders will be on full alert for this very rare raptor (about 75 have been seen in the UK).
With easterly winds forecast for early in the week, can the autumn get even better….watch this space.
