Thursday 22 October comments: As forecast its been a wet and wild day as the wind reached gale force from the west and the cliffs were battered by big seas. However this was in complete contrast to the Seal colonies on the island as mothers and pups were safe and sound.

The number of pups has now topped the 100 mark as the colony goes from strength to strength, although we still have some way to go…another 2,300 pups to go… On Saturday we are hoping to get the Sea Mammal Research Unit (SMRU) over to the island (weather permitting) for their six week stay to carry out various seal research, so fingers crossed the wind eases and we get them over.

As for migrant birds, its been a quiet spell but that may be about to change again…watch out next week….
