….And of course the essentials….

Saturday 24th October comments: Today marked a special day in the life of the Isle of May as the Sea Mammal Research Unit (SMRU) arrived to live on the island for the next 6-8 weeks.

The team of ten based in St.Andrews University, work very closely with the Grey Seals on the island carrying out various research and monitoring projects during the next two months. Everything from satellite tagging to population monitoring, the team will be active across the colonies and we’ll bring you more news about there work over the next few weeks.

So today was all about the arrival, the unloading of the boat and the settling into island life. All ten of the team will be living in ‘Fluke Street’ on the island so having just been one or two people recently, we now have an army. Hopefully the weather will remain kind and we’ll have a good two months ahead. Bring on the Seals!
