…and safely out!

Monday 26th October comments: The number of Grey Seal pups being born continues to rise on a daily basis and it’s great to see so many young on the island. On Saturday we noticed one courageous youngster (only a few days old) swimming off the jetty on the east side of the island.

Young pups can swim but being so young, they are vulnerable as heavy seas, big swell or just the extreme cold (their blubber layers have yet to build) youngsters can easily perish. However for this little spirited youngster, his mother was on hand and was soon pushing him back out the sea and onto dry land where he belongs for the time being.

All in a day in the life of our Grey Seals on the Isle of May. It’s never dull.
