Saturday 7th November comments: As the winter approaches the Isle of May is slowly shutting down and today marked the closure of the Isle of May Bird Observatory for the season.

The Bird Observatory (Scotland’s oldest Bird Observatory) has been manned by volunteers since early April and during that time the residents have ringed and recorded thousands of birds which have moved through the island. Today brought the closure for the winter as the low light (the main Observatory building) was packed and cleaned and we said goodbye to the final two residents as the boat headed west to the mainland.

I’ll bring you some highlights from the Observatory in tomorrow evenings blog, but just wish to thank everyone involved in what has been another good season on the Isle of May. More to follow tomorrow evening…
