Sunday 8th November comments: The Isle of May Bird Observatory closed its doors for the season yesterday as the last two residents departed for the mainland. During the course of the year a lot has been achieved and many people have passed through its doors.

From those returning for over fifty years to newcomers alike, the Bird Observatory has been a beehive of activity and it’s been a good season (despite the weather!). As well as the large number of migrant birds which have been ringed, the accommodation has continued to be improved (from patios to water-tanks) and new friends have been made.

It’s been a good year and although the season is over, it wont be long before the doors are back open next spring and we’ll be welcoming the Wheatears and Chiffchaffs once again. For further information on the Bird Observatory, check out their blog: http://www.isleofmaybirdobs.org/
