Friday 5th February comments: It’s going to be BIG. This year we have plenty to celebrate on the island as it is sixty years since the designation of the May as a National Nature Reserve (NNR), the highest accolade and protection a wildlife site can be given (one of only 47 NNR’s in Scotland).
On top of this, our famous lighthouse constructed by the Stephenson family is celebrating its 200th anniversary since its construction and operation on the island. So lots to celebrate and not even a mention of my 40 birthday this year!
Over the next month or so we’ll be bringing you exciting news surrounding these magical landmarks but we already have some events pencilled in, so be prepared…
Mon 14th March Free evening talk in Anstruther by SNH Reserve Manager David Steel on the Isle of May
Sat 26th March Island opens to the public!
11th-12th June Seabird weekend; discover more from our resident experts on what goes on, on the Isle of May
26th-27th July Family Fun (two) days; everything from face painting to treasure trails across the island
So pencil those dates in and as mentioned, plenty more to come so keep reading and discover what big news we have in the forthcoming weeks. Bring it on!
