Wednesday 23rd March comments: It has been an incredible day if you like Puffins! The Isle of May has been flooded with these magical little birds as thousands upon thousands have been settling on the island. Following the first touchdown yesterday, the calm weather encouraged even more to arrive and by mid-morning the island was awash with Puffins.
It’s great to see so many back although they’ll remain unsettled over the next week or so before settling in early April to nest. It’s been a good start to life back on the May with highlights already including the first Shag eggs, Puffins returning in huge numbers and Guillemots and Razorbills occupying the cliffs.
On Saturday we’ll open our doors to the public and it’ll be well worth an early visit with so much happening so soon. Boats will sail (weather dependant) virtually daily from 26th March-2nd October.
