Sunday 27th March comments: Following a stunning week of weather which witnessed a huge return of Puffins, alongside vast numbers of Guillemots and Razorbills, it was typical that we experienced a weekend of change.
A low-pressure weather system arrived on Friday evening bringing wet and windy conditions and as what happens during these conditions early in the season, the birds departed for the relative safety of the open sea. Our first visitor boats of the season arrived on Saturday and the island was bare.
However it wasn’t all bad news as some Puffins were seen on the crossing whilst the wild rugged island has plenty to offer. With better weather forecast we should see the birds return just in time for our next visitors…we hope! As expected seabirds are very unpredictable at this time of year but once nesting, they’ll be with us come rain, hail or shine.
