Tuesday 2nd August comments: The Isle of May is a very special place with stunning wildlife and breath-taking scenery. However a place like this could not function without the dedication and hard work of all those who live on the island to make the Isle of May what it is today.
Today we say a fond farewell to our two long-term volunteers as Viv and Ellen depart the island for pastures new; Viv takes up employment in Edinburgh Zoo whilst Ellen returns to St.Andrews University. Both have lived and breathed the Isle of May for the past three months and both have had an incredible experience, turning their hand to everything from Puffin ringing to guiding visitors in the lighthouse, to Arctic Tern monitoring and learning how to cope with the Geordie accent (at least they now know what Whey Aye Man means).
Without their help the place could not function and we thank them both for all their efforts, hard work and company in what has been a great summer. Hopefully we’ll see them both back as visitors in future years, but from the Isle of May team; thank you both for a wonderful summer and see you soon!
