Grey Seals starting to take over…

Not long before the first female gives birth

Friday 2nd September comments: You can feel it in the air. The season is changing as the island takes on a more autumnal feel and it won’t be long before we have the calls of Redwings and Fieldfares over the island as they descend from Scandinavia heading to the UK for the winter.

However there has been another shift in recent days as the number of Grey Seals around the island has increased. We now have some heavily pregnant females loafing around and within the next two weeks we expect our first Grey Seal pup. The island will then be taken over by Seals as almost 2,500 pups will be born from then until end of December.

As usual, we’ll be bringing you all the news and views from the island with lots of photographs of the Seal colonies. So if you are visiting over the next few weeks, keep your eyes peeled, you never know what you may see…
