Friday 9th March comments: (Isle of May) As part of the many studies carried out on the Isle of May NNR during the summer, a recent scheme set up has seen our young Great Black-backed Gulls tagged with colour rings. These rings allow people to read the numbered combination using either telescopes or binoculars and report back in.
The results are proving very interesting in this fledgling scheme as birds have been recorded down various east coast hotspots but have even crossed the channel to France. Other reports have come from the Hayle estuary and Pentewan in Cornwall whilst another wanderer took up residence in Co.Down, Northern Ireland.
Its always interesting to see where birds head to and hopefully we’ll be able to track more of these individuals in the future with a little help from you! So keep those sightings coming in and we’ll keep you posted. thanks to everyone involved, especially Mark Oksian for helping with the project.
