Thursday 23rd May comments: We’ve got PUFFLINGS! The first Puffins bringing in fish were seen on the island indicating that we have hatched Puffins and the busy season will start from now (Puffins will be flying in and out of the island regardless of weather).
This great news means we’ve got Puffin young (called Pufflins) 12 days earlier than last year but this was as a result of the ‘Beast from the East’ which put last year’s breeding season back. Over the next few weeks Puffin chicks will hatch all across the colonies and the island will be active and full of life (which is a great time to visit).
So here we go, the season advances and the Isle of May will be alive with Puffins bringing vital Sand-eels to the colonies.
