Thursday 26th September comments: As the end of September gains closer so does the end of the visitor season. This weekend will be your last chance to visit the Isle of May in 2019. To celebrate we are hosting a Seal weekend, inviting you all to join staff, volunteers and seal experts in showcasing all things seal.
We will have seal experts on hand to talk more in depth about the biology and research of the grey seals. We’ll have a special seal pup viewing area; where you’ll have a chance to see our first seal pup laying out on the shingle beach. For the youngster there will be crafts in the visitor centre; the opportunity to make your own seal pup.
Our first pup has gained weight and has taken to the water already, floating around and doing what seals do best…lounge around. It won’t be long now before mum leaves it to fend for itself; moult its white fluffy coat and then start to learn how to fish for food.
So if you want a final visit to the island and see our grey seal population book on a boat today.
